We will begin with the recent history of Africa, exploring its many different regions, which include 54 sovereign countries, nine territories, and two de facto independent states. The key role and continuing influence of colonialism in Africa’s governance and economic structures, and current social forces, including the Western media, and their impact on Africa’s modern politics, will be examined. The course will situate the continent in a global context, subject to the influence of other countries, regions, and organizations. Finally, we will consider where Africa is headed
